Pastor Adams

Dr. Charles G. Adams, Pastor

The lessons for the 6th Sabbath/Sunday of Epiphany are: 2 Kings 5:1-14; Psalm 30; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and Mark 1:40-45.

The theme for these lessons is, Appreciating and Appropriating the Healing Power of God. The only lesson that does not directly describe sickness and healing is 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 where Paul uses the image of a competitive athlete in describing the activism of the Christian. We are not passive patients but competing athletes in the sports of the spirit. The athlete is disciplined, focused, and competitively determined to win the contest. Paul says, in effect, that he is a diligent competitor in God’s moral and spiritual olympics, and he intends to win the gold medal.

DETROIT (Tell Us Det) - “We’ve got a lot of new things for parents this year,” said Roy Roberts, DPS Emergency Financial Manager, to a packed to capacity crowd at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. “We’re not going to do necessarily what happened last year or the year before. We’re going to make things better. We’re going to take those things that were really good and make them better for parents. We’ve got all the languages for kids (9 different languages)…We’re going to make sure we teach more math and more reading, more core classes. And, we are going to push all the kids to a higher level of performance.”
